Toynbee Hall and Cleary Gottlieb win Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership at Law Works Pro Bono Awards 2020
Toynbee Hall and Cleary Gottlieb’s partnership was recognised at last night’s online award ceremony
We are delighted to announce that Toynbee Hall’s work with Cleary Gottlieb at the Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC) has won the accolade of Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership at LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2020.
Thank you to LawWorks for recognising the tremendous work of our FLAC team, the many volunteers who provide invaluable support to the community and our colleagues across our advice services that provide a first point of contact and support for those who need legal advice when they come to us. We are thrilled that during a year in which Cleary Gottlieb and Toynbee Hall celebrate 5 years of working together that our partnership has been recognised in this way.
The award judges highlighted the vital work at our Women-Only legal advice Clinic which has been at the heart of our partnership with Cleary Gottlieb, delivering valuable support and assistance to 1000s of women over that time. We have worked alongside Cleary Gottlieb to build a more “Psychologically Informed Environment”, ensuring that we can effectively respond to the psychological needs of many clients, as well as the legal issues they face. More recently, we have also started the Champions Project, a vital new initiative which seeks to create more opportunities for young black men and women to get into the legal profession.
“I feel incredibly proud of the work we do with Toynbee Hall. Volunteering at the Saturday free legal advice clinic has been a fantastic, challenging, and rewarding experience, assisting those who otherwise would have no recourse to legal support. This award would not have been possible without the dedication of the Toynbee Hall team, who have been a joy to work with over the five years of our partnership. I’m excited to see what we can achieve in the future!”

“We are thrilled to see our partnership with Cleary Gottlieb recognized at the Pro Bono Awards yesterday. Their commitment and dedication to FLAC over the past 5 years has been remarkable and has meant that 100s of women and families have been able to obtain legal advice and “whole person” support that they might otherwise have not been able to access.. In a community where so many face stark challenges and significant barriers to accessing support, the firm and their dedicated team of talented volunteers has made a transformative impact in the lives of so many of the women they’ve reached at FLAC.”
