With centuries of history and an impressive portfolio of guests, the Lecture Hall has seen it all. From ‘Smoking Room Debates’ and wars, to world leaders and famous historians, this renowned chamber has remained the home of some of the most memorable events.Every Tuesday, residents, speakers and local people would gather to debate the issues of the day. This fulfilled part of the vision for Toynbee Hall to become a space which brought people together across class lines, encouraging free thinking and fostering mutual understanding.
In 1896, the Lecture Hall hosted Marconi’s first public radio broadcast demonstration. Along the years, this iconic room has also welcomed notable historical figures such as Gandhi, several Archbishops of Canterbury, at least three Prime Ministers and Vladimir Lenin, former leader of the Soviet Union.

Exhibitions, Product Launches & Receptions
Well-proportioned for medium-sized exhibitions, launches and receptions, the Lecture Hall can now be hired and used in conjunction with the Ashbee Hall and other meeting rooms for larger gatherings. We can provide standard furniture to facilitate the display of any items and seating for your attendees.
Our dedicated events team will optimise the room layout to suit the purpose of your event. For conferences and presentations, we can set the hall up theatre-style to ensure the attention is focused on the front. Alternatively, for board meetings and group discussions, we’ll ensure the furniture is arranged accordingly, using U-shape templates or large oval tables.
Our conference chairs can be interlocked and the tables are both flip-tops and on wheels, meaning they’re easy to move around and store should your event require so.
The Lecture Hall is conveniently connected to the Ashbee Hall via internal doors, making it ideal for larger events, receptions or conferences.
