Knowledge Exchange Circle

Knowledge Exchange Circle

A new forum for knowledge exchange and co-production that aims to address social issues in East London and beyond.

The Knowledge Exchange Circle (KEC) is a forum developed by Toynbee Hall as regular co-designed gatherings that enable people impacted by an issue, policymakers, and stakeholders to connect, share knowledge, and build relationships on equal terms to inspire action.

Our goal is a new model for how communities and policymakers collaborate, leading to better decisions.

Our Pilot Programme

In our pilot programme we looked to co-design East London’s recovery from COVID-19. Working with peer researchers from marginalised groups we created a structure which – through iterative design – shaped a forum that better equalised the power gap between resident and stakeholders.

As part of the core group of 30 policymakers and organisations such as the DWP, London Councils, GLA, NHS, and Ofgem, joined low-income people to explore priorities for the area across the course of a year. This core group selected three key priorities and formulated sub groups to explore the topics of education and employment, debt, and co-design itself.
