Make Moves! is a project run by Toynbee Hall for children from Tower Hamlets. Our goal is to give local children opportunities they would not otherwise have and, through that, to build their confidence and self-esteem.
What we do
Every year, Make Moves! works specifically with 10 and 11-year-olds who are about to finish primary school and move up to secondary school, a change that can be difficult for many children. Last year we took 300 Year Six pupils from primary schools across the borough for activity days in Mile End Park, Tower Hamlets.
The children had the chance to try canoeing, archery, raft building, rock climbing and arts and crafts activities. They also got the chance to engage with children from other schools in a fun and supportive environment. The confidence the days inspire in the children and the connections they make help to ease their transition to secondary school.
What people say about Make Moves!
Steph, a volunteer who has been taking part in Make Moves! for the last two years says,
Working with such great kids is inspiring. I cannot express how amazing it is to be part of something like this."
Chloe, a volunteer who has worked for Make Moves! for the last five years says:
Without Make Moves!, many of the kids from East London will never get to experience a day such as this. I think it is a great opportunity to boost their confidence and give them a day of fun that they really deserve!"
