Toynbee Hall regeneration

Capital Appeal

To ensure that Toynbee Hall remains at the heart of our community for the next 130 years we are undergoing a major regeneration of our East London site which will transform our physical and operational infrastructure. The capital build began in summer 2016 and will be completed by spring 2018.

The key reasons for this capital regeneration are:

  1. To preserve and share our rich history
  2. To improve the services we deliver and innovate new solutions to poverty
  3. To increase our financial sustainability

Our site will consist of three key elements that achieve these ambitions; the Centre for Wellbeing, the Centre for Advice and the Centre for Learning and Heritage based in our historic buildings

Why we need your support

This is an ambitious but essential capital project. The total cost is £16.7m. Toynbee Hall is contributing £11.5m from the sale of several assets, and we will be borrowing £1.5m. The remaining £3.7m will come from our capital fundraising appeal. Of our capital fundraising target, we have £550,000 yet to raise.

How you can help

£5,000 could help us triple the number of people we reach with free legal advice by 2020, by helping to build Toynbee Hall’s new Free Legal Advice Centre

£10,000 could help bring the stories of Toynbee Hall, East London and the history of social reform to local people and international visitors alike, by helping to run our Heritage Exhibition Space for one year

£25,000 could help build the skills and resilience of local people of all ages and backgrounds by helping to build our new Learning Room in the Grade II listed Toynbee Hall

£50,000 could help reinstate our Residential Volunteering Programme by helping to build Residential Volunteer rooms for the 21st Century, providing the space and environment to inspire the next generation of social reformers
