Regeneration Photo Blog – The Hall Unveiled…

By Keith Greenough and Jim Minton

With the roof now in place things are really taking shape. But Toynbee Hall is so much more than just a building. We want it to be a part of the community and a real catalyst for positive change for the future, inspired by what has gone before.

Keith Greenough, 2017

I have made two visits to Toynbee Hall in recent weeks and it was wonderful to see the work continuing to progress and to meet new Chief Executive Jim Minton. The canopy covering the old hall has now been removed and the new roof is in place. Profumo House has been demolished opening up the frontage. And all around stand yellow cranes. At the rear, the new extension with its four gable roofs has taken shape. How wonderful it will be to see these roofs clothed in zinc! Inside, rooms are full of the materials needed for finishing; wall panels, bags of plaster, wiring loops and much more. New paneling and plastering are all around. Things are really taking shape.

I had the chance to hear a bit from Jim about his view on the redevelopment and the opportunities it offers. Jim explained:

Toynbee Hall is so much more than just a building. We want it to be a part of the community and a real catalyst for positive change for the future, inspired by what has gone before. It is great to see the redevelopment taking shape, and huge thanks to all of our supporters, and partners who are helping bring the vision to life. In 2018 as we get closer to reopening our doors, we want to hear from as many people as possible within the community about how we can work with them and how they want to partner with us in the new space. As part of this process, we’re carrying out a survey to understand more about what people want from Toynbee Hall and how they want to engage with us.

Over the coming months we’ll be opening our doors to the community, to listen to your views about how we can work in partnership to give more people the chance to tackle the problems and barriers that prevent them from enjoying the opportunities London offers.

We’d be delighted if you want to be part of this conversation, and please do let us have your details if you want to keep in touch.”
